Canon SX1 Beginner question?

Hello, I am and am turning 17 next month. I was considering the Canon Sx10 until i saw the SX1. I used to own a P&S kodak which I took pictures and lots of video with. My question is should i spend the 600 to get the Sx1 because of the 1080p HD video recording and newly upgraded 4 fps continuos shotting mode?? I am really into videotaping bikers but also want to take nice photos. Or should I just stick with the SX10? I always feel like i get too expensive of products when i don't always need them....but its a really nice camera and I will probably have it up until or even through college.
