What are some good ways to talk to a guy?

I see this 1 guy around a few times a week, but I have no clue how to talk to him. He's usually just barely too far away. We go to this kickboxing cl and I talk to his mom sometimes. I think he knows my name, but I don't kknow if he really notices me. :-( Anyone have any ideas about how I can approach him or start a conversation?
