Is there any pretty natural scenery around Washington D.C.?

Are there any mountains? Are the beaches good? What else is there, other than Capitol Hill? Do you think that Washington D.C. is a nice place to live even if you aren't involved in politics? Is there much else? I am trying to decide where I want to go to college.
